On January 18th tenants of of Atlantic Plaza Towers (APT) were given notice from Management that Atlantic Towers Associates, L.P., the owner of Atlantic Plaza Towers (APT) intends to install electricity meters in each apartment and pass the cost of electricity to the tenants based on each apartment’s actual usage, in order to conserve energy and comply with New York City’s Local Law 97 (LL97). The notice was filed on January 20th and acknowledged by the New York State Register on April 5th.
This is the beginning of a multi-level process and it has not been approved yet. As a Tenant of APT you have a VOICE in the process and the State Register wants to know your thoughts before making a decision.
The State Register states that the Commission has commenced a proceeding to decide whether to approve the Notice. As part of this process, in accordance with the New York State Administrative Procedure Act you have 60 days after publication of this notice (April 5th) in the State Register to file comments with the commission.
EVERY tenant is encouraged to respond online, in writing or via email before July 3rd, 2023 to the City Register.

SCRIE - Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption
WHO CAN APPLY
You may qualify for SCRIE if you are 62 or older; you live in and are on the lease of a rent-controlled, rent-regulated, or rent-stabilized apartment; the combined income of everyone living in your apartment is less than $50,000; and you spend more than 1/3 of your combined household income on rent.

DRIE - Disability Rent Increase Exemption
WHO CAN APPLY
To qualify for DRIE, you must be at least 18 years old, the combined income of everyone living in the apartment must be $50,000 or less, and you must spend more than one-third of your monthly combined household income on rent. You must live in and be on the lease of a rent-controlled, rent-regulated, or rent-stabilized apartment, or an apartment located in a building whose mortgage was federally insured under Section 213 of the National Housing Act and is owned by a Mitchell-Lama development, limited dividend housing company, redevelopment company, or Housing Development Fund Corporation (HDFC) incorporated under New York State’s Private Housing Finance Law. You must also have been awarded one of the following:
• Supplemental Security Insurance (SSI);
• Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI);
• U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs disability pension or disability compensation;
• United States Postal Service disability pension or disability compensation; or
• Disability-related Medicaid if the applicant has received either SSI or SSDI in the past.
